WHSM Radio receives an international award from the Great Lakes Forest Fire Compact!! On
Tuesday, April 27th, 2010 WHSM Radio received a most prestigious award for our
specially designed program called "Fire Watch" which airs on Magic
101 FM. The purpose of this show
is to make area listeners aware of the daily fire danger. Monday through
Friday at 8:05am we talk "live" with representatives from the DNR
and the US Forest Service about that days’ fire danger. The show is now in
its tenth year on WHSM, Magic 101 FM. About
a year ago, Kim Lemke, of the Wisconsin DNR submitted the substance of the
program in a written nomination to the Great Lakes Forest Fire Compact. This
group represents Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan along with two Canadian
Provinces....Manitoba and Ontario. The
goal of this oversight group is to steward relationships and share experience
and expertise if and when forest and or wild fires hit. It is an amazing group
of highly trained and dedicated people. They also look for businesses both
large and small who step up to help them get the word out about the fire
danger we all live with for several months each year.
WHSM
Radio VP/GM, Don Welch along with staff members accepted the 2009 award.
WHSM is
the only business in the state of Wisconsin to be recognized with the special Compact
award. Mr. Welch stated “Our
station staff works hard to make the program informative and entertaining.”
